Shoreline Solutions, a New Zealand limited company ("we," "us," "our," or "Company"), operates the Reel mobile application ("App" or "Service"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information responsibly in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and other applicable New Zealand privacy laws.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use our Service. By using Reel, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: email address, name, and optional profile details
  • Fishing Content: Public trip logs, general location (not GPS coordinates), photos, posts, comments, and private trip logs

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Location: used only in real time to provide weather information. Location data is not stored.
  • Technical Information: device type, operating system, app version, usage statistics, crash reports

2.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Weather Data: we receive weather information from Stormglass.io based on your location. This data is used only to display weather conditions and is not stored permanently.

3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

  • Provide and maintain the Service
  • Enable fishing trip logging and sharing
  • Display publicly shared content to other users
  • Provide weather information based on location
  • Communicate with you regarding your account
  • Improve, test, and develop the Service
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

  • Public Sharing: trips, photos, and posts you share publicly are visible to other users. Private trip logs remain private.
  • Third-Party Services: location shared with Stormglass.io in real time for weather; not stored by us.
  • Legal Requirements: disclosed if required by law or court order.
  • Business Transfers: may be transferred if the company is acquired or merged.

5. DATA RETENTION

  • Account Data: retained while your account is active; removed upon deletion (except email may be retained to prevent abuse).
  • Trip Log Data: may be retained in anonymised or aggregated form after deletion for service improvement and records.
  • Technical Data: retained up to 2 years; anonymised thereafter.

6. DATA SECURITY

We use encryption, secure servers, access controls, and monitoring to protect your information. While we take reasonable measures, no system is 100% secure.

7. YOUR RIGHTS (NZ PRIVACY ACT 2020)

You have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal information
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request account deletion (trip log data may still be retained in anonymised/aggregated form)

8. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

Our Service is not intended for children under 13. Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware we have done so, we will delete it.

9. COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

We do not use cookies. Tracking technologies are limited to essential app functionality, crash/error reporting, and basic usage statistics.

10. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by in-app notice or email. Your continued use after updates indicates acceptance.

11. DATA BREACH NOTIFICATION

If a breach occurs that poses a risk of serious harm, we will notify affected users and the NZ Privacy Commissioner, and take steps to address it.
